Maurice Castro is a computer scientist specialising in the areas of operating systems, computer security, networking and software engineering. He returns to the UCD group after a 2 year absence during which he completed a Masters of Business Administration and worked for the ID group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at RMIT. The ID group focused on applications of cryptography and security technologies.

Prior to his stint in Mathematics, he was a senior researcher with the Software Engineering Research Centre working on projects varying from language design and compiler implementation through to massively scalable computing architectures. While with SERC he helped Ericsson with the Eddie load balancing web server bringing quality of service to Internet users.
